Add a touch of technology to your design

If you're looking to add a home office to your redesign, you may be thinking about buying a computer – which means you're probably looking to justify adding a hefty expenditure to your redesign budget.

Great Computer Savings

While new personal computers can easily put a dent in your wallet, there are ways to buy computers that can save you money, often with little to no compromise on design or quality. Buying refurbished computers, for example, is like getting a brand new computer for a significantly lower price. These computers have been salvaged so overhead cost is next to nothing, which means you pay only for the cost of the repair work and the markup of the seller.

Custom computers are another easy way to shave costs off your purchase. Often, new multimedia computers come with bells and whistles that the average computer user will never use but buy anyway because they are available. If you build yourself a basic computer from scratch or work with a retailer who can customize a computer for you, you can include only the features that you need and want without paying for anything extra.

If you're really hung up on having brand new, look into a lease. Leasing computers is a way for people to get around the full lump sum of a new computer, while still getting all the features and benefits of the latest technology. Remember, however, this option is not actually saving you money – although the monthly payments are affordable, you may end up paying more in leasing fees or interest if you exceed the predetermined pay period.

2 Types of Computers:

Laptop Computers (Notebook Computers)

If you're choosing a computer based on space constraints, a laptop computer or notebook computer may be a smart choice. Easy to tuck away, yet with all the functionality of a desktop computer, these computers give you the option of traveling with your computer as well as using it in your home.

There are a few things you'll want to consider in choosing a laptop that you wouldn't have to worry about with a desktop. The first of these is your laptop battery. Most models of laptop or notebook battery have a lasting time of only about two to four hours, but if you're willing to pay a little extra, you can order a backup battery so you never have to worry about running out. You'll also want to think about laptop accessory purchases. A sturdy carrying case or protective cover are necessary notebook accessories, and you may want to purchase a USB mouse if you intend to work on a table or desk.

Desktop Computers

Although laptops are handy in many ways, if you have the space, a desktop computer (also known as a PC or PC desktop) is a smart choice. Desktop computers have a much longer lifespan than notebook or laptop computers, and are often considerably more affordable. For the same price of a laptop, you could buy a significantly better desktop, with more features or more add-on capability.
