Before choosing a bed, consider size, first and foremost. A double bed is not going to give two adults a comfortable sleep unless they like being cozy, but a king bed is not going to fit in a small master bedroom, either. Make sure to measure the room and carefully plan where you're going to place your bed. The general rule is: buy the biggest bed that will fit in your room.

Mattresses are also important when choosing a bed. The mattress is the most important part of the bed, so make sure you pick one that is good quality. If you sleep with a partner, consider a mattress that will suit you both. There are many different kinds, from a memory foam mattress to a feather bed. Try several types before making your decision. A mattress should last eight to ten years, so you want to make sure to pick the right one.

Bed Styles

The design of your bed can really set off a bedroom done in a certain style. Not only is your bed a comfortable place to relax, it can also be the focal point of a well-designed room.

An iron bed will set off an antique bedroom perfectly. This style also works for romantic bedrooms – especially when it's a four-poster or canopy bed. The smooth curves of a sleigh bed also create a romantic feel.
